More Than a Decade in the Making

Steve didn't set out to become a tax expert — a five-figure accounting bill made that decision for him. Running an international import business meant navigating tax and bookkeeping across borders, and at a certain point, paying someone else to untangle it stopped making sense. So he learned to do it himself. What started as necessity became something he was genuinely good at, and eventually, something he loved.

Melissa's path ran differently — years spent helping friends, family, and her own community make sense of their taxes, long before "tax expert" was ever a job title. When their paths joined, so did the work.

That combined experience found its purpose in St. Petersburg, where a volunteer program for local veterans grew — at the IRS's own request — into a multi-site effort that completed thousands of free returns in just two years, and earned recognition from a former President of the United States and the Department of the Treasury.

President's Volunteer Service Award certificates for Steve Van Duzen (Silver) and Melissa Van Duzen (Bronze), 2023, with thank-you letters from the White House and the IRS for their volunteer tax work.

We know times are tight right now. Over the years, we've sat with a lot of people who work hard for every dollar, often for tips or through an app, and still have to think twice about paying for tax help. We get it. So we take 50% off for servers, bartenders, gig workers, veterans and seniors 65+ with income under $60,000 ($90,000 married filing jointly). Veterans are where this all started for us. It's our way to help the people who serve, whether in uniform or at your table. See if you qualify.

FL Tax Experts is what happens when that whole journey gets pointed at helping you. Plain English. No judgment. A real plan, whatever your situation looks like.
