Who Qualifies
- Restaurant and bar workers: servers, bartenders and other restaurant and service workers
- Gig workers: including Instacart, DoorDash, Uber Eats and Amazon Flex drivers and shoppers
- Veterans
- Seniors 65 and older by the end of the tax year
Your adjusted gross income (AGI) must be under $60,000, or under $90,000 if you're married filing jointly.
How we check
You don't have to prove anything up front. We check your AGI on the finished return (Form 1040, line 11). If it's under the limit, the 50% comes off your price.
The Details
- Good through April 15, 2027.
- Applies to our regular tax preparation price. You'll get a flat quote before we start.
- Behind on past years? It applies to back-year returns too.
- One offer per return. The 50% discount can't be combined with any other offer or discount, including the 15% multi-year discount. If you qualify for more than one, we apply the one that saves you the most.
Work for Tips? There's a New Deduction
Starting with 2025 returns, there's a new federal deduction for qualified tips, up to $25,000 a year. It phases out at higher incomes, tips have to be properly reported, and married couples have to file jointly to claim it. It lowers your income tax. It doesn't make tips tax-free, since Social Security and Medicare tax still apply. Read the IRS overview: What the "No Tax on Tips" deduction means for you. Or read our plain-English guide to the tips deduction.
Why We Do This
We've sat with a lot of people who work hard for every dollar, often for tips or through an app, and still have to think twice about paying for tax help. Veterans are where this all started for us. It's our way to help the people who serve, whether in uniform or at your table, and the retirees who are sorting out what the new senior deduction really means for them.
