How It Works
You prepare returns as part of the FL Tax Experts team, working remotely for now. As we grow, we plan to open offices in other Florida cities, and people already on the team come first for those spots.
Pay, schedule and the kinds of returns you'd handle are worked out one on one. We'll talk it through before anyone commits to anything.
This isn't a franchise or a paid membership
We never charge preparers to join, and we don't sell the use of our name. You'd be working with us, not buying into us.
What We Look For
- A current PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number). This one is required.
- At least three tax seasons of preparing returns.
- Someone who can explain a return in plain English and is comfortable telling a client "you may not need us."
- A private, secure place to work, and care with client information.
- An AFSP Record of Completion, Enrolled Agent or CPA credential is a plus, not a must.
The Returns You Prepare Match What You Know
Our clients should always get someone who knows their kind of return. So what you prepare is based on your experience and knowledge. If a return includes something you're not comfortable with yet, like a K-1, we'll prepare it with you.
Less than three seasons, or new to the industry?
If we have room, we'll work with you. You'd start with the returns that fit your experience and work alongside us as you learn. Tell us where you are in the form below.
University students
Studying accounting, tax or finance at a Florida college or university? Through our volunteer tax work, we've trained and supervised student preparers before, and they were great. Students start with simpler returns, like W-2 returns, with every return reviewed by us. If your school gives credit for internships, we're happy to talk with your program about it. You'll need your own PTIN before preparing paid returns.
Tell Us About You
This goes straight to Steve and Melissa by email. We'll reply to set up a short call.
We use what you send only to get back to you about working together. It goes to our email and isn't added to any mailing list.
